Acura Adaptive Cruise Control | Acura of Oakville

Acura Adaptive Cruise Control

Cruise Control is a feature that has been implemented for many years now, giving drivers the ability to maintain a consistent speed without pressing the accelerator. Acura has taken this technology and expanded on it, introducing it as one of the most convenient features of its AcuraWatch technologies. Acura consumers in Oakville, Milton, and Burlington can now enjoy more time stretching their legs, enjoying music, and sitting a little more comfortably with the help of Acura Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow.

What Is Acura Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) With Low-Speed Follow?

ACC is a driver-assist feature, found on most new or pre-owned Acura's, which maintains a set cruising speed while keeping a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, even at speeds below 40 km/h. To keep the vehicle at the desired speed and following distance, the system regulates the throttle and will moderately apply the brakes when necessary.

How Does ACC Work?

ACC uses a radar unit installed at the front of the vehicle below the headlight and a windshield-mounted camera. These work together to calculate the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you to maintain a safe following distance. When the vehicle ahead of you changes speed, your Acura will adjust its speed by accelerating or decelerating as needed. It is even able to bring your vehicle to a complete stop, preventing a collision. Once the sensors determine the car is at a safe set following distance, it will resume following at the appropriate speed.

ACC Settings And Use

To initiate ACC:

  • If you are travelling below 40 km/hr the system will initiate Low-Speed Follow - Accelerate to the desired speed. Press SET/- to set the speed at 40 km/h when there is a vehicle ahead of you. The system will not engage if there is no vehicle in front of you.
  • If you are travelling more than 40 km/hr - Accelerate to the desired speed. Press SET/- then release the accelerator pedal. The set speed is fixed and ACC begins.

To adjust your speed while in ACC:

  • Press RES/+ to accelerate
  • Press SET/- to decelerate

To resume ACC:

  • If the vehicle in front of you stops, your vehicle will also stop. When the vehicle ahead starts to accelerate, press RES/+ or SET/- or depress the accelerator pedal to resume following.

Change Vehicle Following Distance:

  • To modify the following distance automatically set by the ACC system press the distance button on the steering wheel to select the distance you want.
